10 Days

Today is the beginning of the last week of classes. Crazy!
I got home Tuesday night for Thanksgiving break. Tuesday I had a bio test and a project so that wasn't all that fun but I was so glad when they were both over and I was able to go home. Wednesday I was finally able to get my bangs cut which was awesome! Pretty sure they've never been that long before..was getting very annoyed with them. Wednesday night we did a little shopping and went out to eat. Thursday was Thanksgiving! So we went to church in the morning and went to my mom's parents for lunch. Everyone from that side of the family was over. I didn't eat as much as some people did but Thanksgiving food just really isn't my favorite! Overall it was a really great day. Friday afternoon I went to Rivertown with my family. I was finally able to get a long coat which I'm sure will be put to great use this winter! Saturday afternoon I went to JP's with Heidi and it was so good to catch up with her. We haven't been able to hang out with each other since this summer. Then at night we had the Zuverink Christmas party. For as long as I can remember we've had it the Saturday after Thanksgiving because everyone is home and that's when it works the best. So Saturday night was a good night as well! Before I knew it it was Sunday already. Crazy how fast it went. I wasn't ready to come back to school but I know these next few days will go fast.
This week is the last week of actual classes. Next week is finals...!! I have a paper due on Friday and my lab practical on Thursday. I'm trying so hard to study but am realizing how hard it is all going to be. I will be so happy when these 10 days are over.
I actually am pretty lucky this semester and only have to go in to take one final. I have one online, one is a take home, I have a test during finals week, and a paper due this week. I have to go in on Thursday, my birthday, to take my medical microbiology final. By far my hardest one, what a great birthday present! But I'm planning on heading home after that so I can't wait!
Prayers would be much appreciated during this next little while. I need to focus like I've never focused before! Also prayers that everything will go well and that this time will go fast. I can't wait for a month off!!

Time Flies

So I realized I haven't updated in over a month..whoops! Time sure does fly!! After this week there is 2 full days next week as well as 1 class on Wednesday, 1 full week of class after Thanksgiving, and then finals week..crazy! Only 2 full weeks left. That is both exciting and nerve wracking. I am looking forward to a month off of school but not looking forward to finals.
Since the last time I blogged I've been home a few times. It's always nice to go back for the weekend. Not to much longer and I'll be back again.
I've also been to a few hockey games as well. My first hockey game was here! They are a lot of fun and quite intense. It's even better that our school is pretty good at it!
It's also starting to get quite chilly up here! I always knew the winters weren't going to be much fun, but the colder it gets the more I realize it. It's nice being close to my classes but not so nice being a ways away from food..! Yesterday it was in the 60's and storming and today it was in the 30's and snowing a little..only in MI (:
This weekend my friend Kelly is coming so that's exciting! Can't wait for her to see my school as well as to catch up with her. Really looking forward to that!
I want to just ask for prayer as this semester is coming to an end. Prayers for focus and motivation to get through these next few weeks. Especially finals..! Lots of stuff to get done before Christmas break. Thanks!
Hopefully it won't be a month before my next post!

Blessed

Not all that much has happened since the last time I blogged.
This past weekend I was able to leave for a few days and hang out with family. I left for home almost right after classes Friday afternoon. I wanted to surprise my sisters so my parents didn't tell them I was coming with. We went and picked them up from school and they were surprised to see me along. Around 5:30ish we headed to Auburn Hills to a hotel to meet other family there. We just hung out at the pool Friday night. Saturday we went to the mall and went to Logan's for supper. That afternoon Mom and Dad took me back to school. I wanted to catch some of the football game against Grand Valley. It was rainy and cold but we won the football game. I was really glad it worked out for me to go along with them. It was nice to get away for just a day and to see some family.
This morning I was extremely tired in my first class. I was heading to my next class right afterwards and wasn't looking forward to it. I just wanted it to be over so I could be done with classes for the day. But it ended up being a really great class! We watched a movie called American Winter. It's about a few different families who live in Oregon that are struggling to stay off the streets. Many of them have had their electricity and water shut down because they can't pay the bills or their rent. They have kids and can barely afford food to feed their children. One of the mothers wasn't eating just so her kids could have food. These parents were heart broken that this was happening to them and that they couldn't give their kids what they needed.
One of the women in the movie had gone to college and became a medical assistant. She thought that it was a great field to be in and there were lots of jobs. She was barely making minimum wage with this job. Eventually she was laid off and now is struggling. All of the parents kept saying that they said they would never let this happen to them. Seeing how much they just wanted to raise their kids and give them what they needed was hard. One of the girls said that when she gets older she wants to be able to support her family and if her parents need to she'll give them money and let them live with her.
While watching this it made me realize how blessed I truly am! This sadly is so common now in the United States. One of the statistics was that 55% of food banks were unable to meet the demand. Although my family might not have a lot of money, we are still blessed. Here I am going to college which not everyone gets the opportunity to do. I need to be thankful for what I have and to remember how blessed I am! I'm really looking forward to finishing this movie on Friday.

Great Days

So, this week has been wonderful so far! Yesterday was just a really good day and I thought I'd write about it.
Tuesday night I had just fallen asleep at around 12:30 when I suddenly woke up. My phone was charging by my head and it made a weird noise, my microwave beeped, and my fan turned off..we had lost power. It was only off for about a minute when it turned on again. A few minutes later the same thing happened again. And it turned back on within a few seconds. I texted my friend Kalon and asked if her power had gone out too, which it had. I kept waking up random times throughout the night and the power was still on. But I woke up at around 6:30 and it was off again. This time it stayed off for awhile and I don't know how long it had been off. I checked my phone and I had gotten a text from a girl in my math class asking if our power was going off. So I responded and fell back asleep. I woke up again around 7:30 and got another text from her saying that all classes were cancelled until noon. I only had 2 classes anyways but one at 11 and one at 12 so I was thankful I could sleep in a little longer. I got up and even took the time to curl my hair!
Walking to class it was so perfect out. The sun was shining and the temperature was just right. When I got to class people were saying that there had been an electrical fire somewhere during the night after the power had gone out. So some people had to leave their dorms and go sleep in another dorm, just on the floor or wherever. Needless to say I was very thankful that didn't happen to me!
After lunch Emily and I decided we were going to sit outside for awhile and enjoy the perfect weather! We ended up going in because we were getting so warm. The sun really made the day so much better. Also the trees are starting to change colors really fast and leaves are falling off, it is beautiful out.
At night there was a huge bonfire as a part of the homecoming events. So of course we went to that! The fire was huge!! And it was just something fun to do for awhile, a lot of people went! When we came back Emily and I watched Nashville together.
All in all it was a great day. I know personally I couldn't have asked for a better day. Lots of laughter and good moods! It was just the kind of day I needed.

Every week I write down a quote or Bible verse on my marker board, so I thought I'd share the verse this week:
"Let your hope make you glad. Be patient in time of trouble and never stop praying." Romans 12:12 (CEV)

Home Sweet Home

It felt so good to be home and be able to relax after a stressful week at school. This past week was kind of crazy and stressful at the same time. I had a big test in my harder class Thursday as well as other things due throughout the week. I was just really hoping to make it to the weekend!
Although I had a big test on Thursday, it ended up being a really good day overall. I was stressing out about the test in the morning but afterwards it was much better. The weather was perfect on Thursday. It was super sunny out and the temperature was just right. Walking around during the day I realized that the leaves were changing colors, somehow I had kind of missed that before..so that was a nice realization (:  Throughout the day I began to realize just to appreciate the little things because they really can make your day so much better.
Friday after classes I headed home with Emily. It was nice to be home again for the weekend! Saturday morning we went apple picking and it was perfect weather for it. Then after we got home I went for froyo with Kelly and later at night her and Anna came over. It was a lot of fun to catch up and hear about each others college experiences. So glad we were able to hang out!
This morning we went to church for the 50th anniversary service. It was cool seeing all the different pastors who've been there over the years and made our church what it is today. It was really nice to be back at my own church for a Sunday as well. I do like the ministry here on campus but I missed Haven! And now I'm back at school again. Tomorrow starts a new week and hopefully it won't be quite as stressful as last week.

Crazy

Well believe it or not, I've officially been at school for 4 weeks, a month next Tuesday. Things have gotten crazy lately, especially with homework. At times it can be overwhelming and you just want to make it to the next day. But overall it's not terrible. I've had a quiz and my first test yesterday which is always fun of course. Next week I have another test and that one I'm a little nervous about! A lot of studying will be required for that one. Hopefully it goes well though.
Last week Friday my mom came to visit which was fun. We went out for lunch (a nice break from The Rock), and did a little shopping! It was nice seeing her again.
Saturday was the first football game, vs. Lake Erie and thankfully we won! It was chilly but fun as well. Believe it or not I missed high school football games when I was watching ours. I miss doing the cheers with everyone and filling the stands.
It's been cooling off over the past week, but then it got back into the 80's again this week. I'm realizing how cold and not fun the winters are going to be here! Of course I chose a school where the winters are ridiculously cold..oh well!
This weekend we might go to ArtPrize for something to do. It'll be weird not going with my family but it'll still be fun going with friends!

Week 3

Crazy to think that it's week 3 already. Time is going by both fast as well as slow, which is a good thing. The homework load is slowly starting to pile up. There are plenty of times where I don't want to do it and just want to relax with everyone but I know if I start getting behind that I'll never be able to catch up. The main thing that is holding me back is my online class because it requires quite a bit of time. So when I think I'm done with homework..I'm really not. I will be glad when that class is over!

This weekend is the first home football game so that's exciting! Should be a lot of fun, even if it's supposed to be cold! My mom is also coming to visit Friday so I'm pretty excited for that! (:

This past Sunday morning I went to a ministry called His House here on campus with Kalon. We really enjoyed it and will for sure be going back other Sundays. Everyone was really nice and inviting. It's nice being with people who are around your age.

I've been talking with some friends recently and am starting to miss them. It's sure nice to be able to text and facebook chat and even sometimes skype though to keep each other up to date on our lives. Hopefully some of them will be able to come up and visit sometime.

Overall things are still going really well and I'm enjoying it!

Week 2

I had a great weekend at home. It was relaxing and better than staying at school when not very many people were around. It was nice to be home in the air conditioning! Also nice to be where there was carpet (: We didn't do to much but after they picked me up we went to the Whitecaps game for Dad's work party. Saturday I slept in which was wonderful and at night we went to Logan's with Dad's family. Sunday was church and went to the grandparents for lunch. Monday we celebrated Maisie's birthday and I came back up. So over all it was a good time. I was excited to come back up to school though.

Yesterday we started classes again. Of course getting more homework now as well. A few people have asked me what my hardest classes are and I would have to say either Microbiology or my online class, Medical Vocabulary. They are going to just be a bit tougher than the others. Yesterday I also didn't have 2 of my class so that was nice for a change! I am very glad that it's a shorter week, makes things a little easier. The temperature is also starting to cool off a little bit so that's nice! Still having a great time and loving it.

First Week

I have officially been here for a week..crazy! It actually seems longer than a week. So many of us have been saying that it doesn't feel like college yet and that it just feels like summer camp. I'm sure next week when we get more homework and get more into the swing of things it will be different.
My first week of classes went really well which I'm very happy about. Finding them wasn't to difficult thankfully! I've had some homework but not a ton yet. Enough to get it done and still have time to hang out with everyone. Some classes will be easier than others but that's to be expected.
I actually came home for the weekend. I love it at school but it sure feels good to be in the air conditioning and my own bed! Also to be back with my family.
I've had so many people lately tell me that they are praying for me and thinking about me and I can truly say that I've felt those prayers. I felt so much calmer than I was expecting and things have been going much better than I could ever have imagined. So thank you everyone!

Friends

So..Saturday night we went to Meijer Madness. It was crazy. So many people everywhere. We got lots of free stuff though so that was awesome! After we got back I came to my room and started talking to people on facebook. I then realized how much I missed home and all my friends. But things got better as the night went on. Later we walked to Taco Bell since we didn't really eat supper. It was Chelsea, Emily, Jackie, Brett, Jeff, Dylan, and David. We had a lot of fun getting to know each other all a little bit better. Then we came back and ended up talking in our hall for a long time. We were up till 2 AM but it was a lot of fun!
Sunday morning I went to church with Kalon. It was different than we were expecting but it was still good. Then I went to her room and hung out with her roommate and suite-mates for a little bit and went to lunch with them. Later on in the afternoon we were all in Chelsea and Emily's room again talking and spending the afternoon together. Emily and Analiese came in and we got to know them better too. We had a meeting and then float fest. I hung out with Emily while everyone else was playing some games. I figured out that Emily and Analiese are both going into dental hygiene as well and that we all live quite close. So that's really nice for if I ever want to go home. After float fest we all went upstairs to the guys room and watched the VMA's together. Then we all went to bed on time for our first day of classes!
Today was the first day of college classes which is crazy. I only had two classes today so I was done by 12:50 already which is quite nice. I don't think things will really start seeming real yet until about next week when we have loads of homework. But everything has been going great so far. I'm so excited for what the future holds.

Fresh Start

Well yesterday I officially moved into college..! Still doesn't seem real to me. It was a little stressful at first, especially realizing how small the rooms were (: But it got better as the day went on. The hardest part was obviously when my parents left..tears were shed for sure! Not having a roommate has also been very interesting. Enjoying the space while I have it though (: But not having someone here to hangout with for the first few days is hard. But last night I went to the movie on the quad with my suitemates and the girls across the hall, so that was fun. By the time we got back I was exhausted and went to bed.
This morning we all kind of woke up late because we were so tired from yesterday so we just skipped breakfast and had a later lunch. After lunch we went to the fest thing happening in the quad, I went with the same girls as last night. We had a lot of fun even though it was quite warm.
I came back to my room to cool off and read the Jesus Calling devotion for today. It was so fitting for today. Here are a few lines from it that really stood out to me and were comforting: "I am all around you, hovering over you even as you seek My Face." "If My children could only recognize My Presence, they would never feel lonely again." Meeting new people is not the easiest thing for me so starting out at a completely new place and knowing almost no one is really hard. Hearing this words was perfect at this time. I know God has great plans for me here at Ferris and I know he's going to help me through everything.
In a little while we're going to Cookies @ Clark so hopefully we will meet some new people. Then later tonight it's Meijer Madness so that should be fun. In the morning I'm also going to church with Kalon so I'm excited for that.
