Not all that much has happened since the last time I blogged.
This past weekend I was able to leave for a few days and hang out with family. I left for home almost right after classes Friday afternoon. I wanted to surprise my sisters so my parents didn't tell them I was coming with. We went and picked them up from school and they were surprised to see me along. Around 5:30ish we headed to Auburn Hills to a hotel to meet other family there. We just hung out at the pool Friday night. Saturday we went to the mall and went to Logan's for supper. That afternoon Mom and Dad took me back to school. I wanted to catch some of the football game against Grand Valley. It was rainy and cold but we won the football game. I was really glad it worked out for me to go along with them. It was nice to get away for just a day and to see some family.
This morning I was extremely tired in my first class. I was heading to my next class right afterwards and wasn't looking forward to it. I just wanted it to be over so I could be done with classes for the day. But it ended up being a really great class! We watched a movie called American Winter. It's about a few different families who live in Oregon that are struggling to stay off the streets. Many of them have had their electricity and water shut down because they can't pay the bills or their rent. They have kids and can barely afford food to feed their children. One of the mothers wasn't eating just so her kids could have food. These parents were heart broken that this was happening to them and that they couldn't give their kids what they needed.
One of the women in the movie had gone to college and became a medical assistant. She thought that it was a great field to be in and there were lots of jobs. She was barely making minimum wage with this job. Eventually she was laid off and now is struggling. All of the parents kept saying that they said they would never let this happen to them. Seeing how much they just wanted to raise their kids and give them what they needed was hard. One of the girls said that when she gets older she wants to be able to support her family and if her parents need to she'll give them money and let them live with her.
While watching this it made me realize how blessed I truly am! This sadly is so common now in the United States. One of the statistics was that 55% of food banks were unable to meet the demand. Although my family might not have a lot of money, we are still blessed. Here I am going to college which not everyone gets the opportunity to do. I need to be thankful for what I have and to remember how blessed I am! I'm really looking forward to finishing this movie on Friday.

Great Days
So, this week has been wonderful so far! Yesterday was just a really good day and I thought I'd write about it.
Tuesday night I had just fallen asleep at around 12:30 when I suddenly woke up. My phone was charging by my head and it made a weird noise, my microwave beeped, and my fan turned off..we had lost power. It was only off for about a minute when it turned on again. A few minutes later the same thing happened again. And it turned back on within a few seconds. I texted my friend Kalon and asked if her power had gone out too, which it had. I kept waking up random times throughout the night and the power was still on. But I woke up at around 6:30 and it was off again. This time it stayed off for awhile and I don't know how long it had been off. I checked my phone and I had gotten a text from a girl in my math class asking if our power was going off. So I responded and fell back asleep. I woke up again around 7:30 and got another text from her saying that all classes were cancelled until noon. I only had 2 classes anyways but one at 11 and one at 12 so I was thankful I could sleep in a little longer. I got up and even took the time to curl my hair!
Walking to class it was so perfect out. The sun was shining and the temperature was just right. When I got to class people were saying that there had been an electrical fire somewhere during the night after the power had gone out. So some people had to leave their dorms and go sleep in another dorm, just on the floor or wherever. Needless to say I was very thankful that didn't happen to me!
After lunch Emily and I decided we were going to sit outside for awhile and enjoy the perfect weather! We ended up going in because we were getting so warm. The sun really made the day so much better. Also the trees are starting to change colors really fast and leaves are falling off, it is beautiful out.
At night there was a huge bonfire as a part of the homecoming events. So of course we went to that! The fire was huge!! And it was just something fun to do for awhile, a lot of people went! When we came back Emily and I watched Nashville together.
All in all it was a great day. I know personally I couldn't have asked for a better day. Lots of laughter and good moods! It was just the kind of day I needed.
Every week I write down a quote or Bible verse on my marker board, so I thought I'd share the verse this week:
"Let your hope make you glad. Be patient in time of trouble and never stop praying." Romans 12:12 (CEV)
